Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the management of core business activities related to Models, including:
    1. Model design, development, validation, and implementation;
    2. Model portfolio management, risk analytics, and risk mitigation;
    3. Model monitoring, controls, standards, and documentation;
    4. Model governance across the HSBC Group, as well as policy and regulatory risk management.
  • Develop investment and wealth models by:
    • Designing and executing product risk ratings for mutual funds, bonds, structured products, and stocks.
    • Designing and maintaining the Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) and Aladdin advisory models used in advisory and discretionary businesses.
    • Supporting the development of artificial intelligence (AI) model applications for the Global Private Banking and Wealth business.
    • Creating new propositions and client capabilities to support the investing framework, margin trading, and related areas.
    • Providing expert input to enhance and design future-state methodologies for investment models, drawing on expertise in investment product risk.
  • Optimize Expected Credit Losses (ECL) and Risk Weighted Assets (RWAs).
  • Work across Global Private Banking to effectively manage model risks, expand model coverage, and implement globally consistent model systems, standards, policies, processes, methodologies, and governance across all regions.
  • Engage with stakeholders across all business functions and regions to identify local regulatory requirements, integrate these into global model program design, and ensure compliance with both global and local model regulations.
  • Develop and review models based on stakeholder feedback or requirements, prepare pre-implementation validation reports for local use (countries or legal entities), and develop models tailored to specific countries or businesses as required by regulators.
  • Support annual model validations; monitor the execution, testing, and validation of data; develop model prototypes; implement models; conduct user acceptance testing (UAT); and maintain official model documentation.
  • Administer global and local governance through the Model Oversight Forum and other technical committees; manage audits and oversight of global and local model outputs to ensure appropriate use; and support local and global business teams in model utilization.
  • Run models, produce global and local results, roll out models to new legal entities as needed, conduct stress tests, document processes and calculation runs, perform checks, monitor models, and statistically validate input data (including scenarios and internal loss data).
  • Enhance data infrastructure to support all credit models.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Holds an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Possesses an advanced degree such as a Master’s or PhD.
  • Holds a function-specific certification or degree, such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
  • Experience in private banking or wealth modelling, with an understanding of the unique model risks compared to other areas, is advantageous.
  • Experience with stress testing regulatory requirements and the ability to apply them to private banking is a plus.
  • Knowledge of investment, banking, credit, and insurance products and services is beneficial.
  • Demonstrates effective presentation, interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Recognized for strong organizational skills and knowledge of authoring policies, standards, governance lifecycle processes, frameworks, and target operating models.
  • Good understanding of portfolio management techniques, including portfolio analytics.
  • Proficiency in coding and modelling languages such as Python, MATLAB, and Visual Basic.
