Key Responsibilities:
- Work remotely from a home office to provide technical support to employees.
- Take ownership of new cases through telephone, email, and web-based channels.
- Serve as an internal customer advocate, providing timely updates on case status.
- Ensure each support case aligns with the Service Level Agreement (SLA), prioritizing customer satisfaction by setting realistic expectations and fulfilling commitments.
- Contribute to and maintain knowledge base articles to support customer learning and capture key lessons.
- Draft and distribute technical notices for both internal and external communications.
- Prioritize tasks to address the most important and urgent issues first.
- Continuously learn and adapt as products and services evolve.
- Understand the Ubuntu development process to set accurate customer expectations on issue resolution timelines.
- Maintain consistent communication and information-sharing with team members, both locally and remotely.
- Identify and recommend improvements to enhance service quality.
- Participate in a weekend work rotation as scheduled.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent four-year degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university; preferred majors include Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.
- Experience with Linux troubleshooting, including collecting logs, stack traces, and fine-tuning by editing configuration files.
- Proficiency in Linux server administration.
- Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, including provisioning, monitoring, and orchestration.
- Knowledge or hands-on experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Virtualization/Cloud
- Containers
- Storage technologies
- Networking (bonding, firewalling, bridging, switching, network file system tuning, MTU issues, etc.)
- Basic programming skills in at least one language, such as Bash, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C/C++, or Go.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, and manage the pressures of a customer-facing role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Must pass a background check.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting virtualized environments, including KVM, VirtualBox, and VMware.
- Familiarity with other open-source desktop technologies.
- Active contributions to open-source projects, forums, or code repositories.
